Do It
Yourself Legals is owned and operated
by Jan Downs, who has over 30 years
experience in assisting private people to "Do It
Yourself".
I realized in the late sixties and early seventies that
there was a need for correct and reliable information regarding
a number of legal concerns that had not only been financially
out of the reach for the community as a whole but who were
unable and without the know-how to obtain the necessary
information.
After reading and studying several Acts of Parliament it
became obvious the need was to translate them into everyday
language with simple step by step procedures without having to
read pages of unrelated material. And so was born the
Do It
Yourself Legals concept.
The original kit for conveyancing was distributed free, then
$4. The tremendous enthusium and support that followed was
boosted by TV and radio coverage not to mention considerable
newspaper write-ups to meet public interest and soon afterwards
some of the other states produced their own kit.
These days the once virtually hostile environment of
Government Departments and Courts to "Do It Yourselfers" when
regularly told they were to "see a solicitor" have become
friendly helpful places and one feels an instant welcome.
I am not a solicitor nor do I pretend to be and do
not give legal advise, but I do explain the procedure in
the Kits.
